Software & web development
I strive for excellence in every phase of software development, be it careful planning, prototyping, an efficient implementation or rigorous testing, to provide an optimal solution to each of my customers' problems.
My emphasis is on usability and efficiency of the software to be deployed - ranging from intuitive user interfaces to fast code execution, locally or on a remote server. I can handle or supervise deployment to the Web or institutional intranets on request.
Required programming code is written by me using an array of possible technologies. "Free" code may be adapted to your particular needs and used in appropriate places, if preferred.
The following lists indicate the tools (i.e. programming, scripting, markup & query languages, frameworks and content management systems) I usually work with, ordered by their respective applications. While I am familiar with several other languages, I chose to list only the ones I use regularly and whose version updates and changes I track.
- Ruby on Rails
- Zend Framework
Client-side and stand-alone applications
Markup, styles and data storage
- CSS (level 2 & 3)
- HTML (HTML 5, XHTML 1.0/1.1, HTML 4.01)
- SQL (MySQL/MySQLi, MSSQL, PostgreSQL etc.)
Content management systems
Web deployment and hosting
What good are your cutting-edge web applications if they don't run on high-performance servers? I can offer deployment of software to your servers or mine. If those options are not feasible, I can arrange for additional servers with varying specifications in data centres both in Europe and the USA.
Possibilities include dedicated servers with varying hardware configurations and operating systems (Linux or Windows), as well as "virtually dedicated" cloud hosting with root access and variable amounts of processing power, memory and storage. The available bandwidth usually ranges from 100 MBit/s to 1 GBit/s per server via switches over a 550 GBit/s backbone and 99% uptime is guaranteed by the provider.
Search Engine Optimisation
To ensure maximum visibility of your presence on the Internet, I also provide SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) services, on their own or as part of a development project.
These services may be short-term, i.e. a one-off optimisation of documents contained in your site structure, or long-term, with continued analysis of traffic parameters (such as the visitor flow through your site) and adequate modifications based on the findings.
There is no "I" in teamwork...
...but there certainly can be! If you are in need of an additional pair of hands for your projects or particular stages thereof, such as planning, implementation, testing (white-box, black-box, alpha & beta), deployment or management, drop me a line with a short description and I will reply as soon as possible.
Since I am also a supporter of Open Source and free software, don't hesitate to send me an outline of your non-profit endeavours - if the concept sounds interesting, I might be able to contribute in my free time.
